Grammar Devotional

Quiz, Word Scramble, and Word Search Answers

Day 5

The answer is (d). Welcome can be many things: a noun, a verb, an adjective, and an interjection. But welcomed is the past tense form of the verb to welcome, not an adjective.

Day 12

The answer is (a). Although either spelling is acceptable, it’s more common to see the one- word spelling—cannot. A quick and dirty memory tip is to think of a magician taunting a rabbit with a carrot saying, “You cannot have the carrot.” Extend the r’s in carrot to the bottom of the line and, voilà, the word "carrot" turns into "cannot."

Day 19

The correct spelling in America is canceled, choice (b). In Britain, it is spelled with two l’s: cancelled. Blame Noah Webster!

Day 26

Trick question! They’re all correct. Sort, kind, and type mean the same thing and can be used interchangeably.
