If your child likes post its, you might want him to place a post it on the due date of the project/test on the calendar and work backwards. On the date before the due date, put a post it stating either, “Final Review for Test” or “Project Finished”. The day before this you might want to write, “Glue all pieces onto poster” or “Study pages 13-23”. Work backwards until you get your start date which would be the date you received the task.
