Description
From the seclusion of her modest New England home, the Belle of Amherst wrote hundreds of poems that perplex and delight readers to this day. As unusual as their creator, Dickinson's poems remained largely unpublished during her lifetime. Playful, somber, lyrical—these pieces have a mysterious and organic beauty all their own.

About the Author
Retiring, quiet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) hardly ever left the sanctuary of her home in Amherst, Massachusetts. And yet, this delicate outward appearance concealed a fiery creative spirit that was hard at work throughout her life. Although she published only a few pieces during her lifetime, a vast collection of her previously-unpublished poems, long hidden in a trunk, was at last discovered after Dickinson's death in the late 1800s. The poems, when brought to light, revealed an entirely unique and challenging artistry that no one had previously thought possible of Dickinson. Read as a full body of work, hers is poetry that simply refuses to fit any conventional expectations or easy logic, instead redefining the art itself through her clear and insistent voice.

You have to give her credit . . .
for observing everything in her garden and in the trees and in the light and in her sock drawer, and yet she never went poor. Damn lucky, I say. She'd never survive today. The republicans would drag her off the front yard and make her sweep the streets.

Bummer
What a bummer! This is the version in which Todd and Higginson have edited Dickinson's dashes out and replaced them with commas. I am disappointed and am unsubscribing to this one.
