The Teen Scene

With expert advice from Pamela Goffman

Intro

I'm a sixteen-year-old high school junior who is passionate about enlightening parents about their kids, and I hope to improve relationships between the generations. Parents are always wondering what teens are thinking and doing, and I'd like to clue them in and bridge the gap, to foster stronger rapport between parent and teen. I think the biggest misconception that parents have about teens is that we are a foreign species and are impossible to relate to. Teens have the same basic struggles as adults—the desire to fit in, feel accepted, and feel secure. Giving us milk and cookies won't make our problems go away, unfortunately (though it might make us feel a little better!).

I believe that often teens' poor decisions stem from their lack of communication with their parents. We need our parent's guidance now more than ever about the everyday issues we face; teens will become the future adults, and it's critical that parents instill good values now. With these installments, teen expert Pamela Goffman and I hope to help you parents establish strong, healthy, and ever-lasting relationships with your teens.
