disappointing....

I was hoping there would be a moral or profound lesson, but it is simply the story of a man who is born old and gradually gets younger. I'm wondering how they have made this into a popular movie.....

You will not be disappointed if you read "Swish: Maria in the Mourning," the non-fiction memoir by the mother who mourns her only child lost to heroin death at 23. Yes, you will cry, but you won't be able to put it down either. The writing has this haunting lyrical quality. I guess because it's a play, too.

the movie is actually quite different than the short story. fitzgerald's work just inspired the movie but is not very close to it in many ways. for example, in the movie, benjamin is born a baby and is as small as one, unlike the short story. spoiler alert: he loves daisy (hildegarde) and loves her the rest of his life, unlike the short story again. i love fitzgerald, but in fact, i prefer the movie to the short story.
