Book & Review Forums: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Abysmal

1 out of 5

This short story was a series of disconnected events with almost no point, describing the life of a man who lived out his life in reverse order. There was no substance to the story and no insight into the characters, other than that they were all apparently completely self-absorbed, caring only about how their family members reflected on them. There is never any sense that Benjamin ever grasped what was happening to him or made any adjustments or that any of his family members did either, even though it was painfully obvious. The characters other than Benjamin acted like buffoons, not real people. Did he never communicate with anyone about his condition or think about what his particular future was going to be? Apparently not. To have started with such an interesting premise, F. Scott Fitzgerald could not have developed the concept any less if he had tried. What a complete waste of time and I won't be going to the movie. I can't imagine watching this not unfold on screen.
