Curious about early reception

Glad I read it, but it was tough going at times (the emails kept me at it). The narration is fairly ponderous and the tragedy appears predictable. It's fascinating that the book launched such a powerful meme, since the basic idea is much older, going back at least to Paracelsus's homunculus. Now I am curious to learn more about Frankenstein's early reception.
