Book & Review Forums: The Red Badge of Courage
Good College Prep Read

Having been preparing for the SAT Reasoning test recently, I can say with confidence that if you're looking for a fun way to learn SAT vocab., this is a great book to read. It's fun, and yet, if you read between the lines, there's a deeper meaning. Stephen Crane has definitely outdone most Civil War authors in writing this wonderful book.

Don't I wish I was prepping for SATs!
My interest in the Civil War began in the 60's and was fed by colorful, historical and battlefield maps given away by ESSO (later EXXON). I've seen the film and I've visited Gettysburg and I've studied CW cannons and small arms and the battle of the ironclads near my childhood home (Norfolk, VA). I know the history of Fortress Monroe and the strategically crucial Norfolk dry dock. I have a relative buried with 2,435 other Confederates in a mass grave in Finn's Point (NJ) National Cemetery.
So, I'm enjoying this book.Jan 30, 2010 4:07 am
