Book & Review Forums: Skinny Bitch

Really a book on how to be a vegan.

This book does have some great pointers and tips, but really it's a "be a vegan!" book. It has unnecessary information that has nothing to do with being skinny but more of a rant on the killing of animals we eat.

  • I agree. This isn't the book I thought it would be. Though a lot of the information is interesting and informative, I feel like I've been duped. Also, having grown up in the country with granola-parents who raised our food- including our meat- I disagree with a good deal of what the authors have written about animals. I'm sorry I suggested this book to my husband and friends early into this reading. I'm sorry I spent $5 on it. Again, I feel duped and, now, like I've been preached to at the church of veganism.

  • I don't feel duped, nor do I feel like I've read a rant.I feel informed. Now more than ever I will be sure that if I choose meat, I will seek it out myself from local, family -owned farms where the animals are well-cared for and respectfully (not slaughterhouse done) killed and butchered.
The chapter on the slaughterhouse is informative and well documented. So are all the other chapters about vitamins, excersize, drugs, and taking care of your body & mind. I love that the information is presented and that the authors tell you to basically use your head and think for yourself.

I think this book can help a lot of people, but it won't tell us what we want to hear all the time and facts aren't always pretty or easy to take in.
