Ok, I don't really know anything about this book, except the title. I'm enjoying it so far, but I do have a question for anyone that has already read it. Do we ever find out why the family was on the boat in the first place? I don't want to know why, just if it is explained at some time during the book. Please don't spoil it. Thanks!!!

I have no idea if this is going to be revealed in the book (I haven't read the book yet, I'm going to start tomorrow ;) ), but I'm going to answer anyway. When I was younger (about ten to fifteen years ago) the Dutch television broadcasted the story of the Robinson family as an animated series. If I remember correctly, they took the boat because they wanted to migrate to the US. Unfortunately, that didn't work out as planned and they ended up on the island.

Apparently, I was wrong. They didn't want to go to the US... According to one of the last paragraphes of the first part of this book the family was heading to Port Jackson, to start a new life: "He there [Harm: that's England] undertook the office of missionary to Otaheite; not that he intended to remain on that uncivilized island, but he wished to proceed from thence to Port Jackson as a free colonist."
