Book & Review Forums: Children Are People Too
Somewhat thought-provoking...strayed a bit at the end

I am a Mom of 2 children, ages 3 and 18 mos. As a child, I consistently felt that my ideas and wants really didn't matter and that I wasn't respected by the majority of adults. The title of the book caught my attention, because I have always felt that children deserve to be treated with the same respect you would treat an adult.
The book was easy to read, and had some great examples of guidance theory in practice versus authoritarian rule. However, I grew bored and distracted at the end of the book as the author discussed child abuse in depth. I felt this should have been a separate book as it took away from the message earlier in the book.
I feel that the authors theories are largely based of of John Gottmans Emotional Coaching lessons. The Heart of Parenting by John Gottman is similar in teaching empathy and emotional coaching ie. guidance of children.
