I love Edith Wharton's sharp wit...her profound insights about human nature,..how cruel we can be to one another!
I was saddened and not a little disappointed by the ending to The House Of Mirth...I expected better, and feel Lilly Bart deserved more.

Yes, it was a sad ending. Lily was a victim of her time and of her life choices. Life is not fair, that was the tragic beauty of this story of Lily.

I was saddened as hell when I read the last chapter. Somebody should write another book in which it is clearly explained that Lily Bart just pretended to die to be able to fly away somewhere else with a better man than that doody Selden. Really. She cant die like that. C'mon.
