Community help in adding books

What's the actual technical process behind adding a book? More to the point, is there any way to open it up so that us mere users can add books? From what I've seen, it's got to be a manual process (breaks between installments are too nicely timed for a computer script to guess where to put them), which means it's got to be time-consuming for you.

Obviously there'd have to be a lot of peer review involved to make sure that the books are public domain (or creative commons etc), and that installments are the appropriate length (seems to be ~750 words, no?), etc.

But I think it could be done. There are thousands and thousands of texts from Gutenberg alone, and it would be great to make them available instead of burdening you with the work...

  • Definitely something we have on the drawing board. We have had a bunch of people volunteer but have not yet built a system for parceling out the work and keeping track of what has been reviewed (and making sure we don't wind up with copyright violations).

  • I think this is a great idea. I'm very curious as to the length of your queue as well as what's on it. I've seen a few book requests for some CC licensed works that I am very interested in, but I have no idea when they'll come around to being released. I'd certainly be interested in hacking out at least one if the service were available.

  • I had actually started designing a program to try and do the work of splitting up the pages but I just haven't had the time recently to pursue it.

Perhaps when Albert opens things up I will be devote some more time to it.

  • I have a collection of old classics at home. I would love to help out by contributing more books. Most of them have passed the copyright stage, as far as I know from Gutenberg.

If you need help, I would...greatly appreciate?
