Would it be possible to have a category featuring the books that became plays and/or movies? For instance I find alot of people didn't know that the movie The Heiress is based on Henry James Washington Square. So I thought it might be helpful to have a category for these books under Books that became Movies.

That sounds like a really cool idea...but instead of separating them, I'd like to see them under both categories, for example "drama *and* made into a movie," or "fantasy *and* made into a movie."
I know quite a few of Shakespeare's plays have been adapted into film, and it would be nice to have the last installment show a list of titles and dates of adaptations.Aug 31, 2010 5:44 pm

Indeed there are a lot of films based on Shakespeare's plays! Often you cannot even tell by the title but during watching them, you realize. "10 things I hate about you" for example (originally the story of "Taming of a Shrew")

That's an interesting idea. Before I create such a category, it would be great to get other books in their as well. Off the top of my head, the film Clueless was based on Charlotte Bronte's Emma. Any others?

@susan I think you mean Jane Austen's Emma. :)
I believe Bridget Jone's diary (both the book and the movie) are loosely based on Pride and Prejudice. Also, the fun Bollywood movie Bride and Prejudice.
O Brother, Where Art Though? is based on Homer's The Odyssey.Sep 7, 2010 11:44 am

My tail is between my legs. Thanks for the correction @Lolabean. I suppose it's time to reread JANE AUSTEN'S Emma (and please don't tell my mother who's an English Literature professor!)

For Henry James other than The Heiress (Washington Square), there is The Turn of the Screw, and The Portrait of a Lady. Doing the category by author aids my memory with movies. As Fielding brings Tom Jones as a movie instantly to mind, etc...
