Question of the Week

Question of the Week #11: Your Questions

For the last Question of the Week for January, I want to turn things around and ask you what kinds of Questions of the Week you'd like to answer. What would you like to see asked? Let me know what you're wondering about and you may well see your suggestion as a future Question of the Week.

I'll say that I have two questions in mind that tie into the holidays that are coming up in February (Presidents' Day and Valentine's Day). I don't want to give them away just yet, though!

  • What book, no matter how hard you tried, could you not finish? (Mine was Wuthering Heights...)

What's the book you've reread most often? And why?

  • What book do you randomly quote most often (not intentionally, but it just comes to mind all the time)?

  • tristiseye took my question! I had been hoping you would ask that one too.

I have tried and failed to read both Don Quixote and Sound and the Fury twice.

The only other question I can think of is which book have you not read that you wish you had? (Aside from the 2 I have failed to finish mine is Ulysses by James Joyce)

  • The best book and the worst book you've read in the past year
The character that you believe you are the most like
    Your favorite villain
    Favorite non-fiction book
A book you have that you have no intention of reading, ever

  • @cresswga: Sorry about stealing your question! It's been a fav question among my friends.

    How about another question then:

What's a book you've loved but seems to be hated by everyone else (i.e. friends or general population)?

  • Wow, there are some really amazing questions...

Which book/author (does not) seem(s) to get better as time goes along?

Which author do you feel doesn't have enough readers? (Likewise, there is the opposite.)

  • Running out of good questions, eh? Um, let's see. I would like to be asked, out of all the books I've ever read, who is my favorite character?

  • One question that I don't see answered in the FAQ is how do you get new books onto the site? Is there a process? Can we help get material on more quickly?
Is there an email address we can send requests to? I am new here; just signed up today; am still looking around trying to find answers.

  • The question I find cool is which author's writing reminds you of which musician's music? Example: Virginia Woolf-Jimi Hendrix they both totally broke new ground.

  • I would be interested in the reaction of others to the quote attributed to Robert Louis Stevenson that; " Books are good enough in their own way, but they are a mighty bloodless substitute for life". Personally, I have been fortunate to drink the full measure from both cups. Books can both relate or put a new perspective on what you have already experienced, or they can add something which transfigures reality.

  • 1. If you were invited to a dinner with all the great authors of English literature, who would you like to sit next to? (I got this idea from author Peter Leithart).

    2. Suppose it is your last day on earth and you can invite only one literary character for your last dinner. Who would it be? (I got this idea from a program I heard on BBC Radio).

  • What was the first banned book you read? Or the first one you would like to read, we'll have to say throughout history, since at different times books have had their moments on the various lists (including sadly, school lists even now).

  • If you could go back in time and save a writer's life, so he could have written more and longer-who would it be? Yes, I just saw Bright Star and it definitely would be Keats for me.
