Question of the Week
Question of the Week #43: Writers and Rockers
This week's question comes from reader "Dreamdust" (thanks!). Which author's writing reminds you of which musician's music?
For instance, Virginia Woolf and Jimi Hendrix both broke totally new ground.
(Oh, and if you have an idea for a Question of the Week, tell us here.)

I listen to music when I read all the time. When I read Anna Karenina, I was listening to Sarah McLachlan's Possession, that song is so haunting that it perfectly fit that book. I can not think of one without the other. Do we not have any other musical readers? :)

I looked through all of my CDs yesterday and then I looked through all of my bookcases and I am sorry to report that I couldn't think of a single book that reminded me of a song or singer or indeed find a single song that reminded me of a book.
I listen to music almost constantly but songs typically remind me of a time, a place or a memory rather than a book or author.Sep 23, 2009 10:55 am

Too much work, no need to be sorry just start humming as you read this and think L. Frank Baum/The Wonderful Wizard of Oz/ Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Good books inspire our imaginations and our creativity to take it to the next level so our souls can soar. Think Pygmalion (My Fair Lady) by Shaw with another lovely film score.

It is funny that you mention the WIzard of Oz because I was worried that I would have the songs going through my head constantly when I read it. But I found the book so very different from the film (and much sadder - especially the Tin Man's story) that I rarely even thought of the film beyond recognising where certain events matched up.

I've thought about and I can't honestly say that I have ever related any song to an author or book. The closest I can think of is The Lord of the Rings and the beautiful scores that were in the movie, but then am I not relating the music to the movie and not the book?

Very insightful the Jim Morrison one. Ian Fleming/James Bond=Goldfinger (was it Shirley Bassey that sang that?) All the Bond films have good music...

Check Rock And Roll Tourist. Very interesting combination of rock music/travel. Kind of like Bill Bryson but without the museums
