  • I'd love to visit one of the fictional lands in Enid Blyton's children's novels. They're so vague in my memory now, but they absolutely stimulated my adult love of sci-fi and fantasy fiction.

  • Sitara- the fabulous almost-earth-like star German author Karl May invented more than 100 years ago... it begins (my own translation, i don't know if he was ever published in English):
if you travel for 3 months towards the sun, and then another 3 months further on, you reach a planet called Sitara, which is persarabian and means star...

  • Monte Cristo, a small Italian islet, between the French island Corsica and mainland Italy; south of Elba, the island where Napoleon Bonaparte spent his first exile. Author Alexandre Dumas gave a fictional description of the island and let the main character in his book ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ find a fabulous treasure there. Alexandre Dumas also wrote the famous adventure novel The Three Musketeers.

  • Discworld!!! Just for starters.

I'd also like to visit Munden's Bar from the GrimJack comics and graphic novels; 31st century Earth as experienced by the Legion of Super-Heroes; Xena, Warrior Princess' ancient Greece; Cicely, Alaska from the Northern Exposure TV show, The Sea of Stars with Space Pirate Captain Harlock, and anywhere The Doctor chooses to take me in the TARDIS.

Thanks to the magic of books (and the occasional DVD) I will get to visit all of them this summer. Yay!

  • I am dead serious when I say, Cirque Des Reves from Erin Morgenstern's fantastical and enchanting novel 'The Night Circus.' I love this novel (Sept 2011) and just out in trade paperback last week so much that my yearly ornament I created for my annual ornament party was inspired by the work and I am now teaching the novel to my summer school students at Iolani School (private school in Hawaii) and they are all willing to join me in this circus!!! The novel's film rights were purchased by Summit Entertainment (The Twilight Saga) after a fierce bidding war and I can't wait to see how they will make this fictional world a reality!!! If you love magic, fantasy, the late 1800's NY and London, this book is for you! Become a reveur (dreamer) and join us!
