"He's fine, and the car can be fixed."
My husband's grandfather (the calmest person I ever met) said this to his daughter, who was about to scream at her son for backing his four-wheeler into her car. A Native American elder once described his own inner struggles in this manner: "Inside of me there are two dogs. One of the dogs is mean and evil. The other dog is good. The mean dog fights the good dog all the time." When asked which dog wins, he reflected for a moment and replied, "The one I feed the most."

I have several to share:
Whenever I feel at a loss for what to do in a given situation, or frustrated at my inability to respond adequately or appropriately, I rely on my self-taught principle - If all I can do is pray; then pray I must, with my ALL!
Also, as I grew up and matured - and continue to do so - I realize the importance of the words, "Just because something CAN be done doesn't necessarily mean it SHOULD."
And somewhat conversely - Just because you're unsure of how to go about doing something, doesn't mean it can't be done.
One of my all-time favorite words of wisdom comes from my Dad - "Haste makes poopy!" - how true.
And finally, I recently heard on a program aired on PBS - "It isn't waste until it's wasted."Apr 29, 2010 5:05 pm
