  • She dreamed of breakfast, not of being breakfast, alas. She was left adrift in the ocean with no hope or help in sight. On the third day she began seeing visions, and knew time was short. To perish sooner or later seemed the only choice...then the hungry sharks came.

  • He was such a charmer, no one could quit talking about him. The detective had seen it before, would he be the victim or the killer-the woman wasn't talking. Red hair, bright lipstick, edgy designer jewelry, good manicured nails-his hand held hers. The dead bodies sprawled together, quietly.

  • The dark side of marriage is well-known to insurance adjustors. The suspect sucides, slightly accidental deaths...black widows who smile. Hired hit men for those who can't stomach doing it themselves. Until death, doesn't seem so romantic, anymore does it?

  • Five. Five is a number. She knows that much. Eyes fixed on her hand, fingers outstretched, palm vertical, like the frozen underbelly of a leaping spider. Five. Headache, fierce. Soft digestive sound. Shining in the blackness, a slab of gray tissue, torn into pieces. Five. Her hand starts moving. Slowly.

  • Silence was everywhere. The countryside was dark and quiet and the summer breeze gently touched her shoulders. The porch was open so she could not notice the presence behind. It was like a child, it cannot distinguish evil from good. Drawing its cleaver through her spine seemed pleasurable to it.

  • Jill returned to her desk to see an icon she wasn't familiar with on her screen. She double clicked on the icon to see what it was. As she read she let out a high pitched scream while all her hopes and dreams died. The internet was down.

  • One hole in a one-man box two sizes too small - dark, cramped, trapped. One hole spinning slowly past three choices. Say one and the box opens, wish granted. FALL FOREVER. DROWN FOREVER. INSANE FOREVER. Crazy can’t be worse than two mortal fears. “Insane!” The box spins on without opening.

  • Rain fell lightly as he crawled to the bathroom. After brushing his teeth, he noticed the back door. Approaching the opening cautiously, he remembered closing and locking it the night before. Had she actually gone threw with it? Pouring his morning tea, he began to imagine his life without her.

  • He was ascending, much too slowly, Most were still trapped down the mine. Three never-ending months. His turn had come, at long last, but in the dark oesophagus something was going wrong. Terribly wrong. The cage got stuck. He gave a heart-rending scream. Oh God. His mind snapped.

  • The thing still skulked on the porch, its grimy jester-like apparel jingling in the October night. "I have none!" he cried from the suddenly chilly house. He staggered over, opened the closet to get his sweater, and as the hands dragged him into the blackness of the closet, it laughed.

  • Surrounded by darkness, the televeision flickered in muted colors. Startled out of monotony, I sat up. There it is again - what was that noise? A creak, a groan, a sigh. I turned slowly towards the door and screamed, "Noooooooo!" There stood my father, in his underwear. I am forever scarred.

  • I stop. Listen. Know it listens, too …
To my ragged breathing. To the steady splats of blood; my flesh in tatters.
It has teeth; I know that much. And a feral sense of humor, else I’d be dead already.
Hard luck missing that last taxi.

  • She imagined the office as a stone face, carved out into a cave. Torches lining the walls replacing the florescence lights overhead. Talking and keyboard typing bleed to wipe-cracks and moans. • Bleaker Avenue

How do I write, say this?

I had a craving for salt that night. At 11:58 PM I was off to the Yellow Pearl corner store to buy a bag of chips. It was a typical chilled October night, fog, slick sidewalk. The cars made that “swish” sound when they drove by on Bleaker Avenue.

I had that feeling to look back. You know, it feels like anticipation pricked a nerve in your neck. I had to turn and see what caused it. There was nothing there.

If I had a witness, they’d easily explain it. I saw nothing. Now I crave the taste of warm silken copper and it’s luscious life giving crimson darkness.

Do you feel that prick in your neck? I’m behind you. Don’t look back. I need you to remember this.

She should have brought her flash light. Her brown bag lunch made more noise than her heals. Adrian skulked around the museum’s lab. The exit lights red glow highlighted the five odd shapes covered in a dust cloth. She felt a cold chill run down her arms.

Her heal caught a drop cloth. Adrian reached to the fifth coffin for balance. It gave way rattled on its stand then crashed to the floor. She woke up covered in mud with a whip snapping above her.

“Slave, make bricks or become one.”

    Adrian stomped the mud.

  • The professor walked slowly to the podium. Philosophy 101. He unfolded old yellowed notes and began to read. No eye contact, no questions, no discussion. Only the drone of an authoritative voice. The ninety minutes of the collective silent scream was deafening before thirty bodies hit their desks and died.

  • For five seconds it stares back from the other side of the mirror, and slinks away just as abruptly as when it first came on in the downcast room half-filled by darkness, with its eyes emanating faint glows, and the humanoid contours vaguely surfacing from the black abyss.

  • I still could’t sleep. Everything reminded me of that night, which I almost died. I remember going to bed when I saw her. She was there holding a gun pointed at me. She shot me. She was the woman who believed she was the wife of my boyfriend. She was crazy.

  • Suddenly the door blew open extinguishing the candles. The room went dark, then cold. The creaking began and grew louder, then footsteps, approaching the room. I cowered. Suddenly, a cackling: “It is I the headless horseman, and I have come to seal your doom!” I knew the end was near.

  • He was surfing the internet. But someday He found a photo of a man with a weird disease called elephantiasis. He stared at the screen for a while. The man was a monster, totally deformed. Now he's going mad. He imagines the monster on his dreams and he sees everybody like if they had elephantiasis. Don't surf the internet.

  • If near Halloween does rain
And face's blood begins to drain
Darting eyes on house to train
    What is this? Grain?
Do my eyes lead me astray,
As day turns from light to gray?
    Spying eyes through window bay
Whence spied upon a TV tray
    Spaghetti for World Pasta Day!

  • After the storm my family and I decided to sleep in the back of the van as roof of our house was blown away. In the middle of night I woke up, then unexpectedly the door of the van opened. Somewhat perplexed if who was going to open the door at this hour then A LADY WITH A LONG HAIR AND WEARING WHITE GOWN standing there- staring at me. Just a few feet away from me, I could see her side of the face because of the moonlight. Few seconds passed- what was she going to do next? Frozen was I, couldn’t even shout. Then swiftly she was gone, without sound of footsteps. Then realized she was floating.

  • “Drunken promises”, she whispered hoarsely, nothing but drunken promises”. As her ragged breathing slowed, she grew calm. Salty tears continued to spill down her cheeks but she no longer felt them; tasted them. Her mind went cold with crystalline clarity. She knew what must be done. The trigger was pulled.

  • With audacity she stood her ground; fierce was her determination to live. For two—almost three years, she was more alive than she had ever been. She grabbed at the future and refused to be cowed by unfavorable numbers or her weakening body. But Death proved tireless in his pursuit.

  • He always quipped about what he dreamed.
A mirror, a blurred image of a person who seemed not to have eyes(...) It reminded him of someone. Morning of November 1st, after washing his face, he looked up at himself in the mirror. Suddenly, everything became black.
    He didn´t see anything.
    Don´t play with your dreams.

  • I came back home after a difficult and stressful week, with ten exams. I pressed the light switch, but the light didn´t turn on. So I went quickly to turn on the TV, but it wasn´t possible. And finally, I tried to turn on my computer and I couldn´t use it. THERE WAS NO ELECTRICITY IN MY HOUSE. It was the worst day of my life.

  • Bumps, bangs in the night
    Flight
    Across tight and narrow bridge
    Smidge
Spying ridge - reach it soon
    Boon
    Voice of loon on lake
    Quake
    Earth's break causes skid
    Slid
    Bound amid pyramid tombs
    Doomed
    Lost in womb of Earth
    Rebirth?
    Nightmare's worth of unexpected bliss
    In a monster's kiss
    Tryst.

  • Alternate reality breaking through
    Somehow, I always knew
    Magical key
    Escaped me
    Running for door
    But meeting floor
    What more in store?
    Window suddenly ajar
    Seeing stars from afar
    Crescendo!

    With my creative juices flowing
    I want to keep going
I'm lost in a deep pit
    Without my Daily Lit.

  • I walked along the cold, damp corridor. Blood ran out from underneath a crooked wooden door. I looked over my shoulder checking if anyone was behind me. Slowly I grabbed the door handle. A red, blood hand stained the door knob. A chilled, shilled scream came from behind the door.

  • No more of this hellish life and the fear of when the next blow will fall.
    She pulled the trigger.
Darkness surrounded her, angry voices screamed abuse at her, then the blows came. They did not stop, ever. She realised with horror that from this there truly was no escape.

  • There is the cemetery nearby. One more dead body arriving; their kith and kin weeping, sobbing. For the keeper it's business as usual; arranging space for its burial...The evening giving way to night. In the dead of night I hear the sound of the bodies turning in their graves! Will-o-the-wisp and jack-o-lantern dancing making it a Walpergis Night orgy! Even the bravest will shudder; but not the Keeper!
