how about some hp lovecraft
This an amazing way to catch up on the classics but I would love to read everything lovecraft put on paper.

According to wikipedia there is some on going contention as to when the copyright expires on his work so it is unknown whether anything published after 1923 is in the public domain yet.
However I did find this page:

which contains a lot of his short stories if you were interested.
There is also a book he wrote called "Supernatural Horror in Literature" here:

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to let everyone know - "All" of Lovecraft's works are on a website called "DagonBytes". Also, a website called "HorrorMasters" has a ton of great horror, ghost and supernatural short stories from both sides of the pond for the last 200 years.

I love reading his work. My son just finished a short collection of his work. It was really cool talking with him about a few of the stories.
