Category/Genre Forums: Non-Fiction Books
In need of more diversity and depth?
I'd love to see more variety added to the Non-Fiction category. A larger selection of titles would be wonderful. Anyone else think so too?

Agreed here too.
Here's a couple of suggestions:
Free as in Freedom: http://oreilly.com/openbook/freedom/
Age of Reason - Thomas Paine
Free for All - Peter Wayner
Hacker Crackdown - Bruce SterlingSep 24, 2008 3:44 pm

We actually already have Free as in Freedom on the site (http://dailylit.com/books/free-as-in-freedom).
The others are great ideas. We'll look into making them available on the site. Thanks!Sep 24, 2008 10:39 pm

I just joined and got my first installment. I think this is a wonderful beginning and hope to see a lot more titles added. My first book is on Benjamin Franklin and hope to see more current titles. What is the plan and time line for adding more titles?

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately Seven Pillars of Wisdom isn't in the public domain, but we do maintain a list of contemporary books that are requested.
We're always adding new contemporary books to the site, many in the nonfiction category. We highlight some in our newsletter each month.May 24, 2009 4:49 pm

Here is a list of nonfiction I've been meaning to read:
A Room of One's Own by Virginia Woolf
Silent Spring by Rachel Carson
Aspects of the Novel by E.M. Forster
The Second World War by Winston Churchill
The Waning of the Middle Ages by Johann Huizinga
I'd love it if some of these showed up on DailyLit. (I'm not sure which ones are too modern, sorry...)May 24, 2009 6:32 pm

@wellreadscholar Unfortunately for us none of the books you listed are in the public domain. We can look into acquiring the rights but sadly can't promise we'll be able to make them available.

Here are some excellent nonfiction, but they may not be in the public domain either.
Dreadnought by Robert K. Massie (about the build up to WWI)
Guns of August, (about WWI)Feb 22, 2010 1:27 pm

@Antigone99 Sorry, both of those books are too new as well (published in 1992 and 1962, respectively). If you/others are interested in reading those I'd recommend you check out your local library or bookstore.
