He didn’t want to, but lying there, blood-soaked but not dead, he knew. The suite had been dark, and he was asleep when the deadbolt failed and a blade skewered his stomach first, then his neck. But it was there, floating around him: his wife’s perfume, the same lavender mist she’d worn since college. And dammit if he still didn’t love her.
