Question of the Week - To Trick, or To Treat: That Is the Question
When I was in the fourth grade, I dressed up as Laura Ingalls Wilder. At this time, I was on my second or third pass of most of the Little House on the Prairie series; the stack of books were in a prominent place on my desk with an assortment of bookmarks jutting out from the pages. Many mistook my costume for Kirsten, one of the American Girl dolls. When I told them I was Laura Ingalls Wilder, not many people, especially not in my age group, understood or recognized that name. It was a revelation in a series of revelations that my love of books made me different from the many TV characters and pop stars I encountered on the trick or treat circuit. I was, and continue to be, proud of my decision to plait my hair, wear a bonnet, and make real my love of books.
