Frankenstein - Another classic bites the dust
Another book I've always wanted to read, but couldn't get past the first quarter. I'm pretty patient, but just couldn't manage with this one.
Wuthering Heights - Shocking!
Having grown up with the names of Heathcliff & Cathy thrown about as a supposed romantic ideal, I was shocked to actually read this book and discover what a horrible character Heathcliff is. He is an absolute monster, completely evil. This is one twisted love story.
That said, I also really liked this book for the atmosphere, language, and period. It's never boring, and one can't imagine what will happen next.
Walden - Sure thinks highly of himself
I was surprised by my reaction to this book, one I had always wanted to read. I couldn't get past the first quarter, as the author struck me as smug and a bit too high in the instep. Too bad, as I am a fan of simple living. I guess I like the message, but not the messenger?
A Tale of Two Cities - Classic Dickens
My Dickens choice for 2009. Glad to finally read this one. Some scenes definitely stay with you long afterwards.
Wives and Daughters - Easy-to-read Gaskell
Unlike North & South, which can be tough going in some places, Wives & Daughters is a pleasure. A little slow at first, but picks up speed once Molly's grown up. Only wish Elizabeth Gaskell could have finished it herself; would love to have read her ending. A joy to read, nonetheless.
Wikipedia Tour: Masterpieces of Western Art - Quick course of Art History
Loved this. Learned a lot about a very interesting subject.
Shoes, Bags, and Tiaras - Guilty pleasure
Really enjoying this one; very interesting and fun to read. Nice daily break.
