Etc. - 50 Word Challenge
Feet on the desk, newspaper in hand, blowing smoke rings, deadly bored, I looked up and there she was. In the doorway, leaning to one side, cigarette dangling. She didn't say anything for a moment, then "Got a light?" I didn't move right away, I was sizing her up. "Got a cigarette?" I said. Her expression didn't change though I thought she might have taken a small drag. I was right 'cause she let out a long stream of smoke. "I asked you first," she said. I lowered the newspaper and slowly took my feet of the desk. "I think you've already got a cigarette," That stopped her. She looked at me, then at her cigarette, "What are you, a wiseacre?" She dropped the cig and left. I never saw her again. Good thing, we both should stop smoking.
Etc. - Translators and Abridgements
I'm reading "The Brothers Karamozov." No translator is given, though I notice a translator is given for, say, " Dead Souls." Is it hit and miss like this? Also, can we assume that a book is complete and unabridged, "The Brothers Karamazov," for instance.
