Question of the Week - Choose One Book for the Next Generation
The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster.
Question of the Week - What's Your Favorite Word?
whimsy. it's a delight to say!
The Picture of Dorian Gray - Would all of our portraits end like Dorian's?
I rather think Dorian saw his life and his soul as an experiment. The changing of the portrait was a curiosity, and it made him wonder how he could change it. It's a sick fascination, and I think the portrait drove him to do vile things just to see what exactly they would do to his soul. Would one act be more severe to his picture than another?
My Antonia - Works Well in Installments
The book is written in vignettes, which is good for reading in emails. There was a lot of description and set-up at first, which I find a bit dull, but Willa Cather managed to show the landscape, one I've never been to, very realistically. Admittedly, My Antonia doesn't quite have a plot, but each installment adds more richness to the pleasant story.
