The Rules of Parenting - Easygoing common sense parenting advice
I liked this book because it was good common sense and good easy going advice. I didn't feel preached too and I didn't feel miserable about my current parenting skills.
Momlogic Recession Survival Guide - not worth the time
I agree, I have 2 small children and still didn't find it useful.
Momlogic Recession Survival Guide - meh...mostly common sense, and some of the advice is tacky..
Really not impressed. Most of the advice was very commonplace and the numbers didn't add up. Seemed tacky and not well thought out.

Has the problem been solved yet?
Children Are People Too - Somewhat thought-provoking...strayed a bit at the end
I am a Mom of 2 children, ages 3 and 18 mos. As a child, I consistently felt that my ideas and wants really didn't matter and that I wasn't respected by the majority of adults. The title of the book caught my attention, because I have always felt that children deserve to be treated with the same respect you would treat an adult.
The book was easy to read, and had some great examples of guidance theory in practice versus authoritarian rule. However, I grew bored and distracted at the end of the book as the author discussed child abuse in depth. I felt this should have been a separate book as it took away from the message earlier in the book.
I feel that the authors theories are largely based of of John Gottmans Emotional Coaching lessons. The Heart of Parenting by John Gottman is similar in teaching empathy and emotional coaching ie. guidance of children.
Walden - A true scholar
I think I can summarize this book as a love-hate relationship.
There were parts where I could relate to the thoughts and emotions of the author and was amazed at his level of intellect and knowledge in so many diverse fields of study.
However, there were parts where I merely skimmed the passages, and felt annoyed at the sense of judgement and entitlement from the author, who in my view seems very hypocritical most of the time.
It is a good read to expose yourself to the classics however, it can be very monotonous and dry at times. Definitely not a page turner, but good for expansion of ideas and literature.

Book Requests - Malcolm Gladwell---Blink, Tipping Point, Outliers...
Malcolm Gladwell books and short stories from the New Yorker and other featured articles are immensely thought-provoking.
His newest book "Outliers" has a waiting list a mile long at the library. Gah!
Pretty please with sugar on top, get his books, articles etc on here. Check out gladwell.com for excerpts.
Thanks!
Bugs - To-Read Booklist doesn't let you change order
I'm having the same problem! I have tried on two separate computers to manage my to read book list, but sadly I am unable to change the order.
Walden - Walden- Vocabulary List
Great idea for a thread! It looks like the original poster vanished and is letting others do the hard work! I've found I need to look up the definitions myself and use them in context to really learn!
I have an Excel spreadsheet on my computer desktop, and as I encounter vocabulary words that are unfamiliar to me, I google the definitions and copy/paste them into my spreadsheet as an exercise to improve my vocabulary.
Walden - Walden
I agree it is thought-provoking and there are at least a few lines worth quoting from almost each installment. Though, I feel he is writing somewhat from an elitist and judgemental perspective.
Reader Challenges - 6 Word Autobiography
incessantly questions everything; never finds answer!
Walden - Now I know why it was so difficult to read 40 years ago.
I'm on my 19th installment now, and I wonder what he would think of our modern vanities and trappings! He's probably rollingover in his grave.
Walden - Now I know why it was so difficult to read 40 years ago.
Hehe, I am only on my 7th installment and it seems to lack coherence...it seems like a lot of rambling and non sequiters. It makes me wonder what kind of drugs Henry David was taking!
