The screen door opened and then slammed shut, and boots stomped hardwood. Flies slipped in.

The ceiling fan whined. Jimi wailed. The blonde sighed.

"Your turn," the stranger said, turning the corner into a hail of bullets.

"No, yours," Mick said. He smiled at his reflection in the pooling blood.

Great Expectations - great expectations,a fantastic novel

I think it's beautifully written - lots of telling details, great evocation of time and place and, as mentioned, loads of humor (although of an older vintage - not "in-your-face" humor).

(responding to old post from someone who apparently has finished the book, but ...) Yes, I like the humor - sudden little turns of phrase that make you chuckle, and so dry sometimes that you don't catch the comic edge until after you've read it.
Anyone reading GE now?
