The Moon and Sixpence - A tale of a fictional artist
Starts off strong, loses a bit of steam about halfway through, but still a clever read. Some misogyny and racism (which seems to have been part of the social fabric of the day) may put sensitive readers off.
Mont-Saint-Michel and Chartres - Great book for vicarious travel
If I had the time and the resources, I would take this book to France, buy a train pass, and follow where it leads. I've only read the first few chunks, but so far it is very readable and full of detail which I would expect even people who have never traveled to Mont Saint Michel, Caen, or Bayeux will find fascinating. If you've been there, it's an extra treat.
The Jungle Book - Jungle Book/White Seal
The Jungle Book is good fun by itself and fun to contrast with the (considerably different) 1967 Disney animated feature. Also, it's apparently a very quick read. I say apparently because I just completed the 30th DailyLit chunk (of which 36 remain) and it seems I am now reading The White Seal, also by Kipling. A hidden bonus?
