Question of the Week - Back to School Books

I was in a book club in 6th grade and the facilitator picked "The Call of the Wild" by Jack London. I fell in love with London's books and have used his books as the basis for writing papers in both high school and college.

Someone Comes to Town, Someone Leaves Town - Kind of weird

Weird book, but it definitely kept me coming back! I cannot even describe the story. You just have to read it for yourself.

Little Brother - Excellent and scary!

Big brother is watching Little Brother. I looked forward to every reading! Well-developed storyline with really defined characters. In the light of modern-day homeland security, many issues were raised. Really made me think, yet was a very enjoyable read. Loved Marcus, wish I knew him.

An Old-Fashioned Girl - Old Fashioned but good

I love Louisa May Alcott. Though this book lacks the eternal rightness of "Little Women", it is still a romantic, "old-fashioned" tale and I really liked it.

Reader Challenges - 6 Word Autobiography

Oldest of 13. MBA. Lakeshore living.

Etc. - Question of the Week #19: Favorite Poems

My favorite poet and my favorite poem, very patriotic.
~ The Gift Outright ~

The land was ours before we were the land's.
She was our land more than a hundred years
Before we were her people. She was ours
In Massachusetts, in Virginia.
But we were England's, still colonials,
Possessing what we still were unpossessed by,
Possessed by what we now no more possessed.
Something we were withholding made us weak.
Until we found out that it was ourselves
We were withholding from our land of living,
And forthwith found salvation in surrender.
Such as we were we gave ourselves outright
(The deed of gift was many deeds of war)
To the land vaguely realizing westward,
But still unstoried, artless, unenhanced,
Such as she was, such as she would become.

~ Robert Frost; 1874-1963 ~
