Field Guide to Happiness - Contributing to others

Today's reading asks us to make a list of how we have contributed to the happiness of others. I believe this will be a difficult list for me to make for various reasons. Number 1, I'm a selfish person. Number 2, happiness to others is a perception thing. But I'll give it a shot:

1. I recently had a baking spree and it was all for others. I was ecstatic myself to be able to do something like this and was excited to pass out all the goodies to the recipients. But did it make them happy? I don't know but the spirit of the event was that I was thinking of others and that made me happy.

2. The kids and I are going to the Salvation Army soup kitchen tomorrow to work in the food line.

3. I tried to be helpful with a friend who is starting her own business by sharing what knowledge I know and that of my boss's knowledge who is a business owner. I hope it was helpful.

See, that is all I can think of, but now I know my weakness and perhaps can work on it.

Field Guide to Happiness - "If only I had/was/could do"

From the Field Guide to Happiness, I am to create a list of things that I think would make me happen. The "if only I had/was/could do" sort of list. Then, I am to re-examine in a few weeks.

1. if I were self employed
2. a successful published author, or at least had more time to dedicate to becoming one, or a successful freelance writer
3. travel
4. if my son would "get it" and start to appreciate some things
5. more time with The Gent
6. a better education
7. time, time and more time

I think that about sums it up for now. It will be interesting to see if I have the same things in mind a few weeks from now.

How about you?

Field Guide to Happiness - Work List

OY, I knew this was bound to happen, it was only a matter of time. We have to make a list of what makes us happy at WORK! BLECH. I really don't like my job at all so this is going to be very difficult.

1. the people are good
2. it is pretty laid back
3. no real dress code per say
4. a lot of ex-military (which I guess could go with number 1)
5. i've helped build the company and that is rewarding
6. the money is nice; health insurance too
7. i can work alone
8. it's a pretty easy job, just very BORING and predictable and monotonous...oh wait...sorry! lol

Well, that's about all I can say. What about you? I think I'm going to have to go back and re-read today's passage and see where or what I am supposed to do with this information? Because I wrote the list but still don't feel any better about the whole job thing.

YAY Gina!!!

Field Guide to Happiness - Home Environment List

Continuing on with the next selection we are to create a list of things we are happy about right now with your home environment:

1. My bedroom, my sanctuary
2. our kitchen floor with the faux brick is gorgeous
3. carpet! i had hard wood flooring in my old house and didn't like it - upkeep and it made the house cold
4. our house is not really that big so less house cleaning!
5. we live in a townhouse so there is less yardage to take care of
6. our back courtyard
7. we have a garage and we use it!
8. the shudders on our bedroom window - they are the old plantation type (i think that's what you call them)
9. our home is comfy and cozy

Field Guide to Happiness - Gratitude Lists

As per the first reading delivered in my inbox; here is a list of things I am happy about from yesterday, or grateful for:

Remember - it is supposed to be less than obvious -

1. I was able to get my baking done, gifts for others
2. that my teenaged daughter wanted to help me with the baking
3. that I had the motivation to take kids to Sunday school
4. that it occurred to me that I need a new attitude of gratitude and put forth a plan of action
5. that i was able to start and finish reading a whole article in a magazine - it was a good one too!
6. I got some writing done
7. and that I was in bed at a decent time!
