Posts
Overclocked - good in parts
6 short stories:
• Printcrime - very short, but good with a nice moral twist
• When Sysadmin Ruled the World – a satire (at least I think it was) on the inward looking arrogance of sysadmin (the computer is the only thing that matters even if the outside world grinds to a halt!) – weak story and an uninspired ending
• Anda’s Game – best by far, with engaging characters in a fascinating gaming world; Anda has to grow up and face some real-life realities, giving the story more depth and complexity than any of the others
• I, Robot – tribute to Asimov’s story, but unfortunately lacked compelling characters
• I, Rowboat – another tribute to Asimov, and much better done; Robbie Rowboat has to confront some pretty existential questions
• After the Seige – longest story in the book, but rather weak; after a huge amount of padding it rushes to a barely explained conclusion.
Many thanks to Cory Doctorow for making his book available to us to read online.
