In Maugham’s semi-autobiographical masterpiece, the endearingly impractical Philip Carey, weighted down with a trahic childhood and artistic aspirations, struggles to find a woman to love and a calling.
i absolutely loved this book. one of my favorites. a book about struggling with understanding one's self and dealing with the inhibitions life presents. full of beautiful characters, you will love the athelnys. this book is a must-read for young people trying to decide on a direction for their lives, yet it avoids the annoying and typical 'coming of age' story stereotypes.
