Slouching Towards Bethlehem
This was an 'essay" from the book of the same name by Joan Didion, which I read through Daily Lit. It describes the summer of 1967 in San Francisco's Haight Ashbury District. I rated it one star because I don't consider it an essay. She simply described some people and some of their activities, but did not offer an opinion, a critical component of an essay in my mind.
